Utilizing ServiceNow for incident orchestration and SAP for resource management, the intern helps minimize operational risk across industrial sites. Their role leverages data-driven insights to optimize workplace safety and ensures the technical reliability of the group’s environmental monitoring systems.

Job Description

  • A SHEQ intern supports the implementation and maintenance of SHEQ systems within an organization. The role ensures compliance with safety, health, environmental, legal, quality standards (ISO 9001) and ZF Group standards by managing documentation, monitoring processes, and assisting with audits and reporting.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Document Control & Data Management

  • Maintain SHEQ registers (PPE, trainings).
  • File, index, and archive SHEQ documentation properly.

Compliance & Monitoring

  • Assist in maintenance SHEQ management systems (ISO 9001).
  • Monitor operational areas for compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Risk Assessment & Safety Support

  • Support risk assessments and site inspections.
  • Ensure safety alerts and bulletins are communicated across the organization.

Training & Awareness

  • Assist in organizing SHEQ training programs and maintaining training registers.
  • Promote awareness of SHEQ objectives and standards among staff.

Reporting

  • Report unsafe acts/conditions and come up with solutions to solve them.

Incident & Non-Conformance Management

  • Support on incident reporting
  • Support on retrieving A3 problem solving reports from stakeholders.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Matric (Grade 12) and a safety/administration-related certification.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Strong organizational and data management skills.
  • Computer literacy.

Career Growth & Education

A National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management, or Quality is the required foundation for this track. Career growth leads toward SHEQ Officer or Risk Manager roles by mastering digital auditing tools and international safety protocols. Participating in specialized bootcamps for industrial hygiene and obtaining SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certifications provides a strategic pathway to senior leadership in the global manufacturing sector.
