Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all AN Bagging activities during the shift to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality output
- Ensure continuous plant availability and optimal machine utilization
- Execute daily and weekly production schedules to meet customer and business requirements
- Monitor process parameters and ensure immediate corrective action for deviations.
- Lead shift handovers and maintain accurate production and downtime records
- Enforce compliance with all Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) procedures
- Conduct shift safety talks, toolbox meetings, and risk assessments
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safe operating procedures
- Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance SHEQ performance
- Supervise operators, packers, and material handlers to ensure efficient shift performance
- Plan, allocate, and coordinate manpower based on production demands
- Provide coaching, discipline, and performance feedback to team members
- Manage attendance, overtime, and shift rosters
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a high-performance culture
- Ensure products are bagged and handled according to quality specifications.
- Monitor and record quality checks, ensuring non-conforming products are identified and addressed
- Ensure adherence to housekeeping and 5S standards
- Conduct pre-start and end-of-shift inspections for equipment and machinery
- Raise maintenance notifications and follow up on repairs and breakdowns
- Support maintenance teams during shutdowns and breakdown activities
- Implement basic preventive maintenance tasks as required
- Complete daily production, quality, and downtime reports
- Maintain accurate records of overtime, attendance, incidents, and training
- Participate in audits, investigations, and shift review meetings
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric certificate / NQF Level 4 in Chemical Operations.
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in team management within a process or chemical operations environment
- Strong understanding of maintenance planning, equipment reliability, and operational excellence
- Proven leadership, team development, and stakeholder management capabilities
- Strong understanding of manufacturing/chemical plant operations
- Knowledge of SHEQ standards and legal compliance
- Ability to lead and motivate teams in a shift environment
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and reporting skills
- Basic mechanical or process troubleshooting skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office, production systems)
