Purpose:
- As a Shipping Controller at Cape Union Mart, you are responsible for managing and coordinating all import and export shipping activities. This includes ensuring goods move efficiently and cost-effectively across international borders and arrive on time, in full compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring accurate documentation and tariff application
- Managing relationships with freight service providers
- Reconciling costings and payments
- Keeping systems up to date
- Supporting operational continuity through reliable inbound logistics
Qualification & Experience
- Required: Matric (Grade 12)
- Preferred: Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or International Trade
- Advantageous: Training in Incoterms, Customs, Import/Export Regulations
- 3–5 years in shipping/logistics operations, preferably in retail or FMCG
- Experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, and handling bonded goods
Skills
- SA customs regulations and international trade compliance
- HS codes, duties, VAT implications, bonded/rebate goods processes
- ERP and logistics systems: Oracle, TradeCloud, Sage
Technical Skills
- Proficient in MS Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs)
- Familiar with online logistics and SARS portals
- Systems: Oracle, Sage, TradeCloud
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- High numerical accuracy and analytical thinking
- Effective time management and task prioritization
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving
- Strong service orientation and teamwork
- Flexibility and adaptability to change
