About the Role

The Social Worker drives high-RPM community safety by managing patient data and ensuring 100% compliance with national welfare and health legislation. Utilizing ServiceNow for case orchestration and specialized data tracking tools, the professional minimizes operational risk in psychosocial support. Their role leverages data-driven insights to optimize therapeutic interventions and ensures the technical integrity of the provincial social services network.

  • A valid (code B/EB) driver’s licence.
  • Ability to render a clinical social work practise as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a Specialist Acute Mental Health Care setting. Sound knowledge and skills in psycho-social assessment, family and individual counselling skills. Knowledge of relevant statutory processes. Computer literacy. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Appropriate qualification as a Social Worker that allows for registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP).
  • Grade 1: None after registration.
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience in social work after registration as a Social Worker with the SACSSP.
  • Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate experience in social work after registration as a Social Worker with the SACSSP.
  • Grade 4: A minimum of 30 years appropriate experience in social work after registration as a social worker with the SACSSP.
  • No payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. Candidates will be subjected to a written/practical and oral assessment. “Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements, may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration to register with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview.”

  • Provide clinical social work services with regards to the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families and communities. Utilise specialist knowledge and skills to conduct psychosocial assessments, counsel individuals and families. Network effectively internally with the multi-disciplinary team as well as with relevant external role players.
  • Conduct appropriate referrals to relevant role players and stake holders. Actively contribute to development of care and safety plans.
  • Deliver accountable services through the application of the Social Work Administrative process. Integrated Programme Facilitation and community work, programme management and community outreach services. Ensure continued professional development by keeping updated with developments in the field.
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as Social Worker and proof of payment of registration for 2025/2026.
  • Grade 1: R 243 900 per annum; Grade 2: R 297 840 per annum; Grade 3: R 358 173 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).

Career Growth & Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and active registration with the SACSSP are mandatory requirements for all grades. Career progression from Grade 1 to 4 is based on years of experience and the mastery of specialized clinical social work. Pursuing specialized bootcamps in trauma management and obtaining post-graduate qualifications in health management provides a pathway to senior leadership roles in the public sector.
