MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12/Standard 10 Certificate with Mathematics / Science.
  • Minerals Council of South Africa Certificate: Elementary Surveying or post graduate certificate relevant to mine surveying.
  • National Diploma in Minerals Survey: Surveying, Sampling, Geology, Mining.
  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
  • Advantageous: Membership: IMSSA – Institute of Mine Surveyors of South Africa.

EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):

  • 3 – 5 years practical experience as a Mine surveying in a metalliferous mine.

DUTIES (including but not limited to):

  • Perform surveying, scanning, profiling and measurement duties of designated underground and surface workings in support of production (mining and process) objectives by computing and processing of data on various programmes to calculate survey and related data within prescribed parameters.
  • Perform lock-out procedure where required. Measure, scan and/or survey various infrastructures as instructed / requested in accordance with surveying procedures, using appropriate equipment, and accurately recording measurements taken. Benchmark by calibrating and recording, checking values against check point to ensure accurate survey measurements. Compute and process data on various programmes to calculate survey data within prescribed parameters using appropriate computer software. Perform Engineering/Civil surveys both UG and on surface when required. Calculate survey data and plot on the mine plans within prescribed parameters. Ensure all required equipment is available, calibrated, and ready for use. Perform accurate stakeouts as and when required. Complete all relevant documents accurately and submit to relevant persons for processing. Assist with other duties when necessary, as and when instructed and where    instructions are within incumbent’s ability, knowledge and skill.
  • Conduct pre-start checks on vehicles and report defects to line manager / relevant stakeholder. Conduct pre-check on all equipment including GPS to ensure all survey equipment (including accessories) is ready, clean and in good condition and report defects to line manager.
  • Ensure that the working area is always safe and clean.
  • Train, brief and communicate effectively with Survey Assistants regarding safety and work-related issues. Delegate work to the Survey Assistants and monitor their performance.
  • Conduct issue-based and mini risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control.
