Tax Reporting and Compliance Oversight:
- Responsible for managing tax provisioning processes across legal entities, covering both corporate income tax and indirect taxes, including the calculation and documentation of current and deferred tax items. Prepares and submits regular internal financial tax reports in line with monthly management requirements. Collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to ensure tax estimates, budgets, and strategic planning are consistently accurate and forward-looking.
Strategic Tax Planning and Advisory:
- Leads the development and execution of strategies aimed at optimizing the organization’s tax obligations while maintaining full compliance with applicable tax regulations. Remains well-informed of legislative changes and emerging tax issues, conducting in-depth research to uncover potential savings and improvements in tax efficiency.
Audit and Regulatory Interaction:
- Oversees tax-related audits and legal proceedings, including communication and negotiations with national tax authorities. Coordinates the company’s audit defense strategy and serves as the primary point of contact for tax auditors and related inquiries.
Internal Advisory and Business Partnering:
- Acts as a key advisor to executive leadership and operational teams on the tax implications of business initiatives. Identifies opportunities for tax efficiencies in both domestic and international operations. Supports the creation and refinement of tools for enhanced tax reporting and participates in industry-specific forums to represent the organization’s interests in tax matters.
Risk Management in Tax Affairs:
- Provides comprehensive oversight of tax risks, including those involving complex or uncertain tax positions. This includes structuring, reporting, compliance, and dispute resolution strategies. Maintains awareness of tax developments to inform business decisions and ensure a robust internal control environment.
Regulatory Compliance and Governance:
- Ensures timely and accurate filing of all required tax documentation in line with local regulations and broader compliance frameworks. Aligns internal tax processes with current corporate reporting standards and regulatory expectations.
Team Leadership and Resource Management:
- Leads a team of tax professionals, fostering an environment of continuous development and high performance. Manages relationships with external advisors to ensure service quality and cost-efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) or legal academic background required
- Master’s degree in taxation or a related field is advantageous
- Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and tax legislation
Professional Background:
- Over eight years of experience in tax functions, including a minimum of three years in a leadership role within a large-scale enterprise
- Detailed knowledge of local and international tax law, particularly in corporate and transactional tax
- Demonstrated success in managing tax matters in industrial or manufacturing sectors
- Proven ability to navigate complex tax audits and engage effectively with tax authorities, including SARS
- Expertise in corporate tax, VAT, payroll taxes, customs, and excise duties
