Job Description

  • Responsible for directly leading team of employees and coordinating activities of workers engaged in slaughtering, dressing, and packing poultry.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 Level equivalent.
  • A Production-related Qualification will be advantageous.
  • At least 3 years Team Leader experience in a chicken abattoir.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Standards required.
  • PME or PMI Certificate required.
  • Good mathematical/ analytical skills.
  • A willingness to work overtime, shifts and weekends when required. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Trains new workers in slaughtering, dressing and packing duties.
  • Observe and evaluates performance of workers to ensure conformance to processing/ production requirements and standards.
  • Monitor performance of team members to ensure efficiencies are achieved.
  • Motivate employees to maximise productivity.
  • Take corrective action in the form of counselling and/ or coaching when performance and behaviour is not in accordance with the required targets and code of conduct.
  • Monitor timekeeping and absenteeism.
  • Handle employee problems and queries.
  • Coordinate production start-up, shutdowns and changeovers in line with company policies.
  • Ensure all employees attend inductions and other training programme as per the organisational requirements.
  • Ensure that all SHEQ requirements are adhered to at all times, and take necessary corrective action when needed.
  • Conduct toolbox talks with employees on a daily basis.
  • Monitor appearance of employees and their use of PPE and ensure that the required PPE is worn at all times.
  • Monitor employees using equipment to ensure safety standards are maintained at all times.
  • Take necessary precautions to control and safeguard company assets.
  • Schedule employees on the relevant Health and Safety training to ensure legislative standards are maintained.
  • Ensure housekeeping is completed on an ongoing basis so that the plant is kept clean.
  • Supervise employees to prevent damage or cross-contamination of products in line with the relevant quality policies and procedures. 
  • Resolve or escalate problems of the work performed by employees within own team.
  • Perform work activities in a way that limits cost.
  • Plan, monitor, coordinate and control the quality of a team’s work activities in accordance with internal and external client requirements.
  • Apply or initiate corrective and/ or supportive action when required for employees in own team.
  • Monitor and record the time and attendance of employees in own team.
  • Provide on-the-job training & guidance to employees you supervise.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required by line manager.
  • Any other tasks as may be required by management.
