Transportation Buyer – Guateng needed at Caterpillar Inc.

What You Will Do:

• Establish carrier selection criteria that consider economic situation, market trends, carrier capabilities and financial health as well as Caterpillar’s strategic direction and business needs.
• Track market rates continuously and develop a deep understanding of key long-term rate drivers for multiple transportation modes, regionally and internationally.
• Negotiate contracts and run sourcing events that outline business requirements, performance standards, rates and service level expectations.
• Work with Caterpillar’s legal services to ensure that all carrier contracts provide the Caterpillar Enterprise with appropriate legal protections. 
• Act as commercial escalation for unresolved service provider issues.
• Drives service provider performance, as defined by operations, to ensure providers are accountable for meeting service commitments.
• Ensure service provider cost drivers are understood and communicated as needed.
• Work with service providers to establish quarterly or semi-annual business reviews and ensure those business reviews are held with appropriate business units.  
• Drive visibility of transportation rates/services and run sourcing events through new or existing technology platforms (Keelvar).

What You Have:

• Strong knowledge of the transportation market; cost drivers, trade imbalances, service coverage and capabilities of carriers.
• College or university degree, preferably in logistics.
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Good knowledge of Excel for data analytics.
• Contracts Management and Administration: Knowledge of policies, standards and processes of how to manage and administer contracts; ability to use proper processes and practices for managing and administering a variety of contractual agreements.
• Strategic Sourcing: Knowledge of strategic sourcing methods, technologies and processes; ability to analyze, improve and re-evaluate organizational procurement process continuously.
