Specific Role Responsibilities

Directly responsible to:

  • Service Manager

Responsible for:

  • Customer Satisfaction, Workshop Technicians/Diagnosticians, Mechanics, Apprentices, Quality Controller/Tester, Workshop Cleaner, Diagnostic and Repair Equipment, Tools, Gauges and Measuring Equipment.

Relationships with:

  • Customers, Service Manager, Service Staff, Sales Manager, Parts Manager, Sales Staff, Parts Staff, Manufacturer’s Representatives, other Representatives, Health and Safety Officer.

Improved Profitability:

  • To ensure maximum effective use of equipment and labour ensuring high productivity output.
  • To ensure minimum wastage of consumable materials.
  • To ensure all chargeable materials are recorded on job cards for invoicing purposes.

Customer Satisfaction:

  • To ensure a customer-satisfying level of service and repair quality.
  • To ensure the vehicles cleanliness is maintained during service and repair.

Health and Safety

  • To ensure safe and reliable use and maintenance of equipment.
  • To ensure staff take all precautions necessary to effect health and safety in the workshop.
  • To ensure customers are protected from any possible dangers or hazards in the workshop.

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY 

  • Capital Expenditure:- No purchasing authority. 
  • Other Expenditure:- To procure equipment and tools necessary for the efficient running of the workshop To procure consumable materials To authorise some non-chargeable rectification of work to be carried in line with company policy. No staff engagement or dismissal authority. To discipline workshop staff on routine matters. 

MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS.

Staff:

  • To ensure staff are trained to enable high levels of quality and efficiency.
  • To ensure jobs are fairly and correctly allocated to technicians and mechanics.
  • To supervise tests and ensure correct use of equipment and document security. To ensure all job sheets are correctly written up and forwarded to the cost office for pricing.

Security:

  • Ensure customers’ property is secure.
  • Ensure all materials and parts drawn from the Parts Department are accounted for.
  • Ensure all equipment and documentation is accounted for.
  • To ensure all warranty work, documentation and materials are accounted for.

Administration:

  • To ensure progress of jobs through the workshop.
  • To authorise consumable and internal parts requisitions.
  • To authorise any non-productive time spent on vehicles or in the workshop.
  • To ensure health and safety procedures are observed and maintained at all times.
  • To circulate new and up-to-date manuals and literature for new vehicles or techniques..

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Technician – 2-3 years experience as a Workshop Foreman.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Experience, qualifications and training
  • The ability to supervise a labour force.
  • The ability to assess and report on staff performance.
  • The ability to discuss and negotiate agreeable solutions to customer problems.
  • The ability to maintain personal technical knowledge and skills
