Job Purpose
- To provide high quality, cost effective instruction and training for both regulatory and type, in order to maintain a high standard and safety orientated maintenance of South African Airways and third party aircraft in accordance with local and international airworthiness standards.
Principal Accountabilities
To design and develop training programs and materials in order to meet SAAT and 3rd party training needs:
- Research the training requirements through needs analysis with SAAT and 3rd party customers.
- Analyse findings, design training programs and develop training objectives and content.
- Develop /compile training material, curriculum guides and instructional plans and obtain approval.
- Update all training material as required by the manufacture and operator/s, review MOD’s, SB’s,
- Regulations and procedures of course update.
- To deliver training interventions (including 3rd party courses) in line with SAAT’s training requirements.
- Prepare for delivery of training in order to ensure efficient delivery of the course content.
- Keep abreast with latest developments on Aircraft Systems and Technology to ensure relevance of the training content.
- Confirm all the logistical requirements for delivery of training (venue, materials, accommodation, travel, etc.).
- Liaise with simulator personnel to obtain Simulator operating instructions in order to conduct the training session.
- Deliver training and adapt learning resources / aids as per the specific outcomes and level of target group.
- Facilitate / conduct CBT session and video training sessions classroom courses.
- Conduct course evaluations analyse and correct Competent / Not Yet Competent ratio and problem questions found in exams and action as needed.
- Arrange for the close-off of the contract job account number for billing of 3rd party customers for both regulatory and type training.
- To plan, organise and conduct assessments in order to measure learner competence.
- Source / develop assessment in order to measure learner competence.
- Conduct assessments, administer and record assessment results.
- Participate in assessment validation sessions
- Plan and conduct moderation of assessments.
- To conduct Simulator sessions, ground runs and ground run checks
- Design, co-ordinate and instruct engine ground run course per aircraft type for both SAAT and 3rd party customers, locally and internationally.
- Book simulator, conduct simulator sessions, complete flight simulator utilization and defect log after simulator sessions.
- To deliver training interventions (including 3rd party courses) in line with SAAT’s training requirements.
- Co-ordinate availability of aircraft or facility for field trips.
- Conduct “On Job Training” as per “hands on” Training Log Sheets.
- Oversee the completion of all relevant documentation.
- To supervise the section’s human resource in line with SAAT’s HR policies and procedures.
- Recruit staff per the section’s staffing demand (when required).
- Identify the training needs of the section’s staff and oversee their development in order to ensure and maintain competence.
- Alignment of performance contracts with direct report in line with the Training department’s objectives, conduct performance appraisals to measure productivity and meet objectives.
- Initiate appropriate Labour Relation action within the section where necessary (when required).
- Motivate employees and colleagues within the section to ensure high morale and improved productivity,
- Adhere to all HR policies, procedures, OHS and SMS.
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Trade test in appropriate trade / skill and part certification in appropriate area of expertise and aircraft line and base maintenance Type Course (Level 3)
- 5 years post apprenticeship experience
Knowledge and Skills
- Applicable regulatory requirements
- Understanding of logistical procedures
- Good financial skills
- Good typing skills, computer literacy, MS Office, Internet usage
