Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

  • The purpose of the Specialist – Roaming New Services is to coordinate the implementation and performance of the new Roaming services, including, but not limited to IoT, eSIM, blockchain, RRMS, SMS and PD blockers, etc. Bayobab Roaming Hub and its Client Operators complying with GSMA requirements.
  • The Specialist – Roaming New Services plays a crucial role in driving forward the evolution of Roaming services, pushing boundaries, and maintaining compliance with industry standards to deliver exceptional value and experiences to our clients and end-users alike.

  • OpCo: Establish and maintain direct relationships to MTN OpCo technical and network teams.
  • Reporting: Creation and presentation of regular reporting about commercial operations performance, as well as MTN OpCo and Roaming Partner (“RP”) engagement.
  • Roaming VAS: Maintain oversight and reporting over the performance of Traffic Steering, Messaging, BRG, GLR, & etc.
  • Processes: Ensure the end-to-end documentation and understanding of operational processes.

Key Performance Areas:

  • The Specialist – Roaming New Services will be accountable to achieve the following core KPA’s:
  • Representation: Technical and contractual representation of the Roaming Hub internally and externally.
  • Engagement: With OpCo’s, RPs, internal cross-functional stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • Reporting: Regular weekly, monthly, and ad-doc reporting on all assigned areas.
  • Testing: Ensure accuracy in the planning and reporting of all new services.
  • RVAS: Ensure the planning, performance, and reporting of all IR RVAS, as well as any issues with the external vendors and OpCo’s.
  • Vendors: Ensure management and accountability of outsourced processes and engagement with vendors.
  • The Specialist – Roaming New Services is entrusted with driving excellence in representation, engagement, reporting, testing, RVAS execution, and vendor management to uphold the highest standards of performance and innovation within the Roaming Hub.

Responsibilities:

The Specialist – Roaming New Services’ responsibilities in this position are to:

  • Advise the Manager – Roaming Business Operations on all technical and contractual aspects of the new services.
  • Partner with Wholesale, Market Manager, Managed Services, Bayobab stakeholders, and external vendors to ensure optimum smooth and seamless technical and contractual operations of the New Services.
  • Analyse service performance parameters of Business Operations and RPs and use Roaming Hub intel to improve operational performance.

Output:

In this role, the Specialist – Roaming New Services is expected to deliver the following outputs:

  • Reporting – Regularly provide reports and updates on the progress, challenges, and opportunities related to new services.
  • Maintain an accurate record of the testing and launch of the new services.
  • Monitor and plan test set ups on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide a prioritization list of roaming partners and Client Operator ready to proceed with IoT testing to the Technology team.
  • Act as a single point contact for test prioritization for Client Operators.
  • Ensure proper action plans are in place to correct and exceed operational performance expectations.
  • Testing: Engage with Managed Services to manage, plan, and report on RVAS delivery from Vendor.
  • OpCo’s: Provide monthly updates to Bayobab Roaming Account Management on OpCo engagement, refining strategies as necessary.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or Telecommunications
  • English: verbal and written proficiency

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years or more experience in an MNO roaming operations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Broad-based knowledge of the mobile telecoms industry within GSMA roaming.
  • Experience managing, implementing, and supporting multiple service launches within the mobile telecoms landscape.
  • Experience with SS7(Signaling System 7), GPRS(General Packet Radio Service), Diameter, GRX/IPX tracing.
  • Experience with technical troubleshooting related to International Roaming.

Competencies:

  • Strong planning and coordination management skills.
  • Excellent mathematical and statistical abilities.
  • Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written).
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office; i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Technical and commercial knowledge of international Roaming environment.
  • Able to work effectively with multiple stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment.
  • A working knowledge of business practices.
  • Knowledge of risk management (a risk taker who carefully considers risk/reward) and business development.
  • Ability to identify key issues in a situation and to think creatively and strategically in facing internal and external challenges.
