Role Objectives
- Responsible for underwriting, claims and sales of construction guarantees portfolio.
- Maintain the standards of the guarantees division thus enhancing the image of Hollard.
- Ensure all technical aspects and administrative functions within the division are adhered to.
- Process all underwriting transactions assigned, within the set standards required by the company thus contributing to the productivity of the division as set out within parameters delegated.
- Contribute to the growth and profitability of Hollard.
- Develop and maintain effective business relationships with brokers in order to attract develop and retain profitable business.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwriting: Analyze qualitative and quantitative data prepared by brokers and clients to provide approval for risk selection and acceptance, coverage and price. Decline unsuitable risks.
- Ensure that policy transactions (quotes, new business, endorsements, renewals, post loss, cancellations) are issued and changes recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Processing: Accurate and timely data capturing of quotes, new business renewals, endorsements, declarations, post loss adjustments and claims. Complete transactions within delegated authority limits and within set standards/guidelines and service level agreements.
- Sales and Marketing: When required visit brokers and accompany sales team members on broker visits, develop relationships with existing and new brokers.
- Product Development: Assisting with key product development.
- Account Management: Review segment profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans to produce profitable underwriting results.
- Team management: Manage a team of underwriters and administrators to achieve desired outcomes.
- Reporting: Provide necessary reporting on financial and operational indicators relating to underwriting.
- Diary: Daily diary files to be extracted and dealt with.
- Recordkeeping (registers, documents, e-mails etc) to be kept up to date at all times.
- Continuous Process Improvement: Ensure full compliance to all processes, policies and procedures and identify areas for improvement.
- Risk Management: Surveys and recommendations following underwriting principles.
- Variance Management: Adhere to standards set by Hollard.
- Operations Management: Ensure that targets and standards are maintained with the processing of new business, endorsements and renewals. Ensure compliance with SLA’s.
Required Knowledge And Experience
- Sound understanding of construction guarantees with at least 10 years’ experience including:
- 7 years Guarantee underwriting experience
- Experience in Insurance industry preferred
- Time management
Educational Requirements
- Matric
- 7 years’ experience
- BCOM-degree or similar an advantage
