About the Project Lead role

Responsibilities
- Curriculum and materials development:
- Spearhead the ongoing development and enhancement of AMC’s training programmes and materials, ensuring our work remains cutting-edge, authentic and impactful.
- Ensure training materials are accessible, data-efficient, and tailored to South African civil society needs.
- Update and refine our curriculum annually based on participant feedback, sector trends, and technology shifts.
- Ensure all materials are peer-reviewed and aligned with best practices in digital advocacy, social change theories and nonprofit communication work.
- Technical support and oversight:
- Manage AMC’s Moodle LMS, ensuring it’s secure, user-friendly, and offers a seamless learning experience.
- Provide technical support to organisations on online functionalities, paid tools, campaign strategies, content creation and analytics.
- Lead on AMC’s own digital strategy.
- Network engagement, communication, and collaboration:
- Work with civil society and NGO partners to ensure AMC resources address sector challenges and advance justice and innovation.
- Act as a thought leader to the sector, at the intersection of technology, communication, and social impact.
- Develop ideas and communication strategies to enhance the sector’s use of digital tools.
- Track and manage our analytics and communication outcomes.
- Online learning innovation:
- Expand AMC’s reach, including its structured programmes, webinars, self-paced learning, and sector-specific resources.
- Create toolkits and smart ways to learn to help participants build sustainable online strategies outside structured programmes.
- Ensure materials are scalable to reach underrepresented areas and less-resourced organisations.
- Online training and strategic mentorship:
- Provide personalised mentorship and strategic support to programme cohorts and alumni.
- Offer training to internal DGMT projects and teams.
- Lead group and individual training sessions, assess assignments, and conduct feedback reviews.
- Monitoring and evaluation:
- Use AMC’s framework to measure programme impact at individual, organisational, and sector levels.
- Align programme design with measurable outcomes and our theory of change.
- Conduct post-programme evaluations and maintain alumni engagement to assess long-term impact.
- Team leadership and management:
- Lead and manage a small, dynamic team who are responsible for content, technical support, and programme management.
- Acts as a strategic and technical advisor to a broad range of organisations and internal DGMT projects on their online communication strategies and activities to help them strengthen their strategies and practice.
- Admin and project management
- Manage AMC’s project roadmaps and timelines.
- Design and manage AMC’s budget and expenditure.
- Report on AMC’s progress monthly and annually.
- Engage with and be available to represent AMC internally to DGMT, in reports, conversations and meetings, where necessary.
- Design the proposal and raise AMC’s new grant at the end of each grant cycle, ensuring AMC delivers on its goals and grows in each budget cycle.
Qualification
- Degree in or related to Communications, Education, Online Learning Design, Technology or Social Development, with specialisation relevant to the work of Amplify Mobilise Change.
Experience
- You will have a combination of online technological expertise, writing, creative content and narrative transformation work experience, mentorship and education knowledge and agile project management experience.
- Work experience: 5-10 years of experience in leading projects in digital learning design, curriculum development, digital communication – within the local civil society or nonprofit context.
Technical Skills:
- Extensive experience with learning management systems (particularly Moodle or similar platforms), content management systems, and organic and paid digital communication tools, across the spectrum.
- Strong technical knowledge of online platforms, data optimisation, mobile-friendly design, and technology solutions that can be scaled in under-resourced contexts.
- Demonstrable experience in developing online learning materials, toolkits, and resources that are engaging, data-efficient, and practical for civil society organisations.
- Sector and social change knowledge and skills:
- Deep knowledge of the South African civil society landscape and communications with it
- A strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to digital communication and technology adoption within the sector.
- A passion for and experience in narrative change work, critical content analysis and social change pathways.
Teaching and education skills
- Notable experience teaching and facilitating adults in online education environments.
- Experience in agile ways to build engagement in learning flows and manage relationships with mentees and cohorts.
- Ability to deploy and engage around critical issues related to our work in real time .
- Leadership and project management:
- Proven track record in leading teams, managing projects, and driving strategic growth in a digital learning or technology-driven context.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and ensure high-quality delivery of training programmes.
- Experience creating and running budgets, managing teams and working within a fast paced environment.
