Tasks
Strategy Development & Execution
- Develop overarching DTH product and pricing strategy that aligns with overall customer strategy.
- Establish, embed and manage the product and pricing strategy development process.
- Develop a product innovation strategy that delivers disruptive consumer-centric innovation, renovation and impact, both within and across product categories
- Work with technology, Stream and Connectivity teams to optimise bundles
- Set the overarching product development strategy. Support the development of specific product strategies.
- Work with industry thought leaders (local & International) to scenario plan product conceptualisation, creation and adoption.
- Develop understanding of, and monitor, DTH product profitability
- Input and approve approach to customer offers
Benchmarking/Governance
- Set and manage a governance plan to ensure consistency and adherence to product development and pricing methodology and parameters, as well as the timely provision of key inputs from participating functions
- Commission competitor product and pricing intelligence analysis to develop a robust understanding of our position in the market and an awareness of our competitiveness
- Coordinate and conduct large-scale product and pricing studies & research (e.g. the impact of consumer value perceptions on price elasticity) to inform and refresh products and pricing
Budget Management
- Manage financials and associated controls in respect of the Product team (effective cost control).
- Lead input into subscriber and pricing assumptions for budget – working with strategy and insight teams
- Implement action plans in respect of budget deviations.
- Rigorously monitor expenditure against approved budgets and put measures in place to address variances.
- Continuously identify areas for improved efficiency and reduced cost.
Pricing & Stakeholder Management
- Manage the overall DTH NPD[BN2] pipeline, ensuring resource allocation aligns with overall customer strategy
- Work with all Customer functions to develop and recommend products with specific pricing and packaging strategies that balance short-term performance with long term goals
- Work with customer marketing, brand, and sales teams to develop annual promotion plan and provide promotion guidelines and parameters to optimize annual discount budgets
- Provide regular and timely product and pricing updates with corresponding pricing insights and recommendations
- Evaluate the price performance of products by developing a robust price monitoring plan and make corresponding price optimisation recommendations
People Management
- Oversee the activities of the team to ensure effective delivery of business outcomes.
- Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance management, informal coaching and recognising effort and success
- Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members.
- Determine and analyse development needs for the team
- Interview and recruit new members of the team
- Manage team performance – including disciplinary or grievance processes (with support from Human Capital when required)
Qualifications Essential:
- Post Grad Qualification or Equivalent NQF Level 8 Qualifications in Business Management/Marketing or similar
Qualification Preferred:
- MBA advantageous
Experience
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in new product development and strategic pricing analysis,
- A minimum of 5 years of senior management experience
- Substantial experience driving innovative new products and building pricing models
