Description
The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:
- Assist with monitoring the implementation and compliance with the recommendations and remedial actions imposed in market inquiries.
- Assist in conducting impact assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of recommendations and remedial actions imposed in completed market inquiries, including the development of information requests, interviewing market participants and conducting site visits.
- Provide support in projects and initiatives within the Market Inquiry Division which seek to foster compliance with recommendations and remedial actions of market inquiries.
- Assist in conducting research and identifying focus areas for future market inquires.
- Assist in carrying out the investigative work required in a market inquiry, including the development of information requests and interviewing market participants.
Requirements
We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements:
- An Honours degree in Economics or LLB.
- A Masters' degree in Economics or an LLM will be an added advantage.
- Strong research, analytical and writing skills are essential.
- Minimum of 2 years’ Economics or Legal experience; it would be advantageous if the experience is in economic regulation and/ or competition.
- Knowledge and understanding of the purpose and objectives of the Competition Act, the Competition Commission and the South African economy is highly recommended.
