Role Purpose/Business Unit:
- To manage end to end the Terminals Business including the devices portfolio management, commercial and procurement management, planning and inventory management and logistics delivery.
- Continue leveraging on SA Terminals business to drive group wide scale including in the respective area from product marketing to procurement and logistics.
- Drive growth and market relevance on the different segment and categories (Smartphone, FWA/Routers, Smart tech, Home, etc), to substantiate and improve Vodacom leadership position
- Contributes to the business as key enabler of global and local company’s strategy related to voice and data service revenues, margin, subscribers base and brand preference
Your responsibilities will include:
Terminals strategy:
- Lead terminals strategy for CBU and VB, leveraging the Vodafone product catalogue and strategic assets.
- Ensure OPCO market requirements are reflected into the planning of the group global product strategy.
- Ensure relevant strategic group initiatives are reflected in local strategic plans.
- Evolving the integrated terminals strategy across CBU and VB, leading total terminals planning processes, delivering on time and to a high quality.
- Measures: Business KPIs delivery on time. Strong collaborative working relationship with all company’s divisions and functions CBU, VB, Technology, IT, Finance, Legal, corporate Affairs, HR.
Business improvement:
- Integration of the full value chain, leading South Africa’s integration into the global strategy.
- Specific improvement plans regarding terminals Forecasting, Supply & Demand Process, In stores After Sales Services, Logistics & Buy Back. Portfolio & Commercial alignment to deliver scale on a global and local level.
- Measures: Cost savings, terminals P&L, NPS. Strong collaboration with Group terminals, direct reports, Touch points managers, vendors, IT and finance.
Marketing plan:
- Lead creation of terminals integrated marketing plan for CBU and VB across all functional areas and ‘through-the-line’ (i.e. single plan integrating Postpay/prepay/VAS propositions, with terminals, with ATL, BTL and base marketing, and sales focus) in collaboration with CBU functional heads; Keep this ‘live’ throughout the year, identifying gaps and potential conflicts.
- Review priorities based on company’s strategic directions, resource allocation and return.
- Measures: Timely delivery of accurate, integrated plan. Strong collaborative working relationship with CBU and EBU department heads; handset and smartphones
- market share in the different price tiers Customer migration towards 4G and 5G
Planning and Inventory and After Care
- Responsible for the forecasting, planning and inventory process management
- Responsible for PO process, inventory levels and stocks
- After Care responsibility and management
- Planning/Inventory Measures: Product availability, Back orders, Stock levels, Aged stock, Provisioning and write offs
- After Care measures: After Care P&L, volumes, TNPS
Logistics
- Logistic partner managements
- Compliancy with local regulations
- Measures: OPEX/Direct Costs, cost per units, SLA with channels
Negotiations with Terminals Vendors:
- Lead local negotiations with terminals, accessories and after sales/Logistics services suppliers.
- Ensure integration, alignment and continuity with VPC negotiations in a way that will generate more benefits and profits for the company.
- Supports CBU and VB special projects when terminals are key enabler to deliver project’s goals.
- Lead differentiation strategy by reaching better deals regarding Time to Market Advantage, Prices, Product Availability and Inventory management (VMR & VMI.
- Measures: DB delivery, and efficient working process; Strong collaboration with CBU, VB, IT and Finance dept heads; on time rebates collection and seamless process; offers competitiveness; total collected rebates
Responsibility for Terminals Function,
- which includes the following departments: portfolio management/marketing, purchasing, logistics & after sales. Covering all devices inclusive, handsets, tablets, connected devices and sim cards.
- Responsibility for several projects and programmes in local level related to global terminals initiatives.
Customers, suppliers and third parties
- Strong Collaboration with Terminals Group Marketing, VPC and Operations, as well as with Terminals Cluster regarding all terminals business aspects (Marketing, Purchasing, Logistics, After Sales), and Vodacom’s several divisions and depts. i.e., CBU, VB, Finance, HR, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Technology and Business Improvement.
- Strong collaboration with Terminals, Accessories and After sales services suppliers, Partners for Logistics, Repairs and After sales services and, Key external interfaces of the role (customers / suppliers / third parties)
Leadership and teamwork
- Manages a team of four executives responsible for terminals portfolio management, product management, purchasing, logistics, After Care and Go to Market.
- Sets goals and targets regarding local terminals strategy implementation to direct subordinates and runs performance review process Lead terminals DB and FC revisions process
- Recruits, coaches and appraises terminals dept employees as well as coaches direct subordinates and motivates all terminals team members to deliver their targets as well as to bring fresh ideas to support company’s objective strategy and goals
- Influences in company’s commercial decision making process. Is also contributes with ideas and best practices sharing in Terminals group and cluster.
Innovation and change
- Leads Vodacom South Africa’s terminals strategy development and implementation, initiatives, related to terminals, services development (My Services) and LRP & Annual plans
- Solves problems related to terminals strategy, service development and plans implementation following an escalation process from indirect subordinates to direct subordinates. Problem solving usually is based on advanced analytical thought and judgement.
- Supervises direct subordinates in the context of Spirit Behaviours, in a way that gives freedom to them delivering their goals, learn more and bring new ideas in the team and the company.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:
- Matric essential and
- Relevant 3-year Degree essential and
A minimum of 10 – 12 years relevant experience essential in:
- Terminals Strategy: Experience in leading terminals strategy, leveraging product catalogues and strategic assets
- Business Improvement: Proven track record in transforming the terminals business end-to-end, including integration of the full value chain and aligning with global strategies
- Marketing Plan: Experience in creating and leading integrated marketing plans across various functional areas.
- Negotiations: Strong experience in negotiating with terminals, accessories, and after-sales/logistics services suppliers
- Leadership and Teamwork: Experience in managing a team, setting goals, and running performance reviews. Ability to recruit, coach, and appraise employees
- Innovation and Change: Experience in leading strategy development and implementation, solving problems related to terminals strategy.
Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of business administration, retail, marketing, and supply chain management.
- Commercial awareness and in-depth understanding of terminals industry and competition
- Detailed knowledge of mobile telecoms and related industries, as well as general strategy issues and problem-solving approaches
- Specific knowledge of mobile device value chain and business management in an operational context
- Strong knowledge and experience of Vodafone operating model or equivalent similar global corporate operation
