Duties
- The incumbent serves as a Procurement Agent in the Procurement Unit, American Embassy Pretoria. This position is responsible for all procurement actions for all ICASS serviced agencies at Post plus ad hoc support to regional posts in Africa, and the three Consulates General in South Africa. The incumbent is directly supervised by the Supervisory Procurement Specialist who gives specific instructions on all work assignments and reviews work for completeness and accuracy.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:
- security certificate; or
- security clearance.
- All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
- Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time 12 weeks upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Education Requirements:
Option 1:
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12 and a 2-year National Diploma in Strategic supply management, Supply chain management, Acquisition, Logistics or Business Management is required.
OR
Option 2:
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12 is required.

Qualifications:
Experience:
- For the experience and education requirements applicants must meet either option 1 or option 2 to qualify.
Option 1:
- Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the field of acquisitions is required.
OR
Option 2:
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of acquisitions is required.
Job Knowledge:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in procurement working with local vendors is required. Strong understanding of business processes is required. Good verbal and written communication skills is required. Strong interpersonal skills are required.
Skills And Abilities:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, intermediate and Excel (intermediate) is required. Must be tactful in dealing and negotiating with vendors/contractors and exercise sound business judgement. Ability to maintain accuracy while working under stress and deadlines. Keyboard skills required and speed and accuracy are essential. Numerical skills required for accounting of purchases and reconciliation.
