Main Purpose of the Job

• Son is looking for an excellent general reporter to report from our Bellville office.
• The reporter must be able to source, investigate and report.
• The journalist should have an existing and extensive contact network.
• The suitable candidate will have the ability to get the story behind the story and gather unique information that is not available elsewhere.
• The journalist should have a good understanding of digital journalism, be able to record video and take photos. The suitable candidate will be able to work quickly and under pressure.  
• The successful candidate must also be willing to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and public holidays from time to time.

Job Outputs 

• Identify stories.
• Report breaking news and write follow-up articles.
• Maintain a contact network.

Skills and Competencies

• The ability to work comfortably in a digital, multi-platform environment, with skills in social media, photography and videography.
• Excellent Afrikaans language and writing skills.
• Strong news sense.

Qualifications and Experience

• A relevant tertiary qualification.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• At least 3 years’ experience as a reporter.
