Key Performance Areas:
Duties:
- Responsible for annual site safety induction.
- Responsible to conduct weekly/monthly safety toolbox talks for all departments with attendance register filed for record and compliance.
- Ensure fire drills are conducted quarterly for all departments and feedback is provided to the DC manager.
- Weekly testing of fire equipment and generators.
- Ensuring that buildings and all infrastructure is in a good state of repair.
- Ensure all regulatory obligations regarding health, safety and risk is adhered to as per legislative and corporate requirements.
- Minimize production downtime through ensuring high levels of planned maintenance, breakdowns are attended to timeously and monthly supplier reviews are held.
- Manage contractors in accordance with all corporate policies and legislated regulations and ensure they have valid registration with the Compensation Commissioner.
- Additionally ensure all service providers adhere to H&S requirements at all times and safety files are maintained with up-to-date documentation.
- Keeping records and administration of all maintenance and audits in line with corporate policies and legislated regulations.
- Develop and execute training plan for site employees especially MHE operators, health and safety reps, fire fighters and first aiders.
- Manage site security including but not limited to security manning, CCTV, risk audits, physical security and participation in security groups where applicable.
- Schedule all MHE drivers’ legal licencing requirements and medical assessments and ensure correct compliance.
- Manage IOD administration process, and logging of claims with COID.
- Ensure high level of housekeeping and pest control.
- Monthly audits are done and recorded.
- Service schedules are in place and kept on file.
- Monitoring logs in place.
- Conduct monthly site audits in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and East London.
- Incident and or accident investigations.
- Compliance with SANS codes, Building regulations, OHS Act and COID Act.
Administration
- Machinery downtime measurement report.
- Review and distribute MHE productivity and exception report.
- Review incident/accident data for risk report.
- Compile annual planned maintenance budget.
- Monthly reconciliation of R&M expenses.
- Request purchase orders for service providers for approved work.
- Procurement and purchasing of protective clothing and distribution thereof.
- Conduct monthly health and safety meetings.
- Review and report on operators’ license validity monthly.
- Daily reporting related to H&S/Risk matters.
- Audit finding progress reporting.
Qualifications:
- Completed Grade 12
- Safety / Risk Management Diploma
Experience:
- Two or more years solid SHEQ experience
Additional requirements:
- Proficiency in – MS Office – Outlook, Excel, Word
- Knowledge of food safety regulations (HACCP or similar)
- Proven track record of auditing ability
- Local travel is mandatory
- Able to attend to emergencies after hours
- Incident and accident investigations

- Able to attend to emergencies on site at short notice
