RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Dentists and /Registrars /students doing dental procedures;
• Provide chairside assistance to Dentists and students;
• Ensure and maintain infection control and waste management standards;
• The Dental Assistant will be expected to assist Dentists in other departments to
• curb shortage whenever students are not in clinical during recession (student leave;
• Co-ordinate and organise some student activities;
• Co-ordinate and organise patient appointments;
• Administrative duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• National Certificate in Dental Assisting;
• Registration with HPCSA as a Dental Assistant (1st April 2023 – 31st March
• 2024);
• 2 years’ experience as a dental assistant;
• Practical working knowledge of infection control and waste management standards;

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

• Appropriate language and communication skills;
• Ability to work in a team;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Ability to perform routine/structured tasks;
• Good knowledge of dental materials, instruments and restorative procedures;
• Appropriate skills to work in different disciplines of dentistry.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

• More than two years of working experience as a dental assistant;
• Additional qualifications in line with dental assisting;
