Qualifications, Competencies & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, business administration, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in ESG, sustainability, or corporate responsibility roles, preferably in the retail industry
  • Strong understanding of ESG principles and best practices, including sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI and SASB
  • Experience developing and implementing ESG and sustainability strategies and initiatives
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Passion for sustainability and commitment to driving positive impact in society and the environment.
  • Advanced Excel Skills

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Further develop and execute Boxer ESG strategy, in alignment with the company’s overall mission and goals
  • Develop and monitor ESG and sustainability metrics, report on progress, and make recommendations for improvement
  • Ensure that Boxer is aligned with JSE requirements on ESG and its relevant Disclosures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that ESG and sustainability initiatives are integrated into business operations, including procurement, supply chain, marketing, and corporate social responsibility
  • Lead the development of sustainability policies and procedures, including the creation of a sustainability framework for the company
  • Conduct environmental and social impact assessments of Boxer’s operations and supply chain, and make recommendations for improvement
  • Work with external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, NGOs, and government agencies, to identify and address ESG and sustainability risks and opportunities
  • Incorporate ESD support programme within the ESG and Sustainability portfolio
  • Support and provide guidance to the internal departments on monitoring, tracking and reporting on ESG and sustainability initiatives
  • Keep up to date with global trends and best practices in ESG and sustainability, and make recommendations for incorporating new ideas and innovations into Pick n Pay’s strategy
  • In consultation with the Group Executive, act as a spokesperson for Boxer’s ESG and sustainability initiatives, both internally and externally, including through media interviews, public speaking engagements, and industry events when required
  • Ensure that Boxer remains compliant all related Government prescripts and legislation as Amended
  • Responsible for reporting on Boxer’s ESG targets and sustainability initiatives at various internal and external structures.
