PURPOSE:

  • To provide strategic direction and technical expertise for integrating Information Management (IM) solutions into the Business Unit’s (BU’s) business and mining operations.
  • Lead BU’s IM portfolio to ensure availability, reliability, and compliance to IM governance.
  • Execute technology initiatives for process improvement and digital transformation.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, project management, and strategic alignment.
  • Provide leadership to the BU IM team for successful strategy execution and team development.

MAJOR CHALLENGES:

  • Manage stakeholder’s expectations from a customer and IM perspective; in translating the BU strategy and business plans into the IM portfolio.
  • Ensure alignment between the IM portfolio (Customer demand) and the BU IM, Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) strategy.
  • Ensure smooth integration of all IT and OT operational service provision so that there is no avoidance of service delivery responsibility by any service provider within the BU.
  • Manage inter-dependencies and multiple vendor relationships in terms of service performance across the BU.
  • Develop vendor relationships to ensure seamless end-to-end service delivery.
  • Risk management in own operational environment.
  • Ensure adherence to governance frameworks, policies, and procedures by all parties.

Minimum Requirements    

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B Tech Information Technology (Essential/Minimum or)
  • Bachelor Degree Information Management (Essential/Minimum)
  • Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
  • B Degree (Hons) (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)
  • BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE: 

  •  5-7 years Proven experience (5+ years) and technical expertise in creating and implementing IM strategies. Proven delivery of successful IM projects aligned with long-term business objectives. Strong understanding of mining operations and related technology requirements. Solid experience in cybersecurity, risk management, business continuity, data management, solution design and due diligence exercises. Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Experience engaging with and managing cross-functional teams, consultants, vendors, auditors and similar. Experience in managing information technology projects, change management interventions and budgets. Familiarity with industry-specific software and applications (e.g., OT applications) advantageous. Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations, compliance and privacy requirements in the mining sector, e.g. GDPR and POPIA

Duties & Responsibilities    

Budget and Resource Allocations    

  • Collaborate with line manager to develop and manage the BU IM budget, optimising resource allocation across projects.
  • Establish business plans for the BU IM projects by setting targets, business forecasts and budgets.
  • Oversee execution of the BU IM’s capital and operational budget
  • Track and manage IM solutions and costs as a key enabler for the business units.

Functional Excellence    

  • Oversee and monitor IM activities at business units.
  • Effectively balance the demand for IM services against the business unit appetite and affordability constraints of the business unit
  • Identify and manage critical functional risks through appropriate mitigation plans/actions.

Governance Risk and Compliance    

  • Ensure compliance to IM Governance Framework, Policies and Procedures
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and develop cross strategies to monitor and mitigate IM related risks at business units.
  • Similarly, monitor and mitigate IM related risks across relevant projects and operations.
  •  As required, support and actively contribute to all combined assurance efforts including, amongst others, internal and external audits, governance, legal, risk, compliance, and supply chain management processes

IM Strategy Planning    

  • Strategic business partner at BU level.
  • Ensure alignment between the IM department strategy and the BU strategy.
  • Incorporate the BU strategy and business plan as well as the IM IT & OT strategy.

People Management    

  • Provide strong leadership to the BU IM team including external employees, fostering professional development, and ensuring a high- performing and motivated team.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of your immediate team.
  • Plan and manage performance, skills development, employment equity, talent, and culture of team to improve innovation, achieve efficiencies, and expand competencies.
  • Ensure clear communication of individual, functional and business targets and objectives and drive performance towards their fulfilment

Project Management    

  • Lead the evaluation and prioritisation of IM projects and initiatives at BU to drive the achievement of business objectives.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the IM project management team, ensuring projects are executed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Ensure seamless project execution, managing resources and timelines effectively.
  • Apply best practices and methodologies in project and change management to achieve successful outcomes.
