Overview

  • A law firm specializing in Intellectual Property is seeking to employ an experienced and dynamic Human Resources Manager to contribute to the development and success of the firm, to actively drive HR strategies in order to deliver on key business outcomes. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and managing the full HR function.

Minimum required experience and competencies:

  • B Com Industrial Psychology or equivalent HR qualification plus Post Graduate qualification;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role (legal industry experience preferable) with a proven management record;
  • Must be highly computer literate with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft office;
  • Must have proven experience in HR systems including VIP;
  • Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations occurring as a result of workloads and/or deadlines;
  • Ability to prioritize work efficiently in order to comply with deadlines;
  • Ability to be discreet since the position will require dealing with a lot of confidential information;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels;
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Conflict management ability;
  • Proven project management skills to ensure projects are completed within the given timeframes;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to effectively deal with third parties i.e. SARS, banks and service providers;
  • Flexible and reliable;
  • Good work ethics;
  • Dependable.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • The duties and responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager will include, but not be limited to:
  • Ensure efficient development, implementation and maintenance of HR policies to ensure statutory compliance and alignment with overall organisational strategies;
  • Ensure an efficient recruitment process in order to ensure competent and quality candidates are sourced;
  • Ensure new joiners are effectively inducted;
  • Identify skills gaps and ensure that training and development needs are met;
  • Ensure that the monthly payroll of partners and staff is done accurately and timeously on VIP and that the payroll is reconciled to the GL;
  • Effective leave management;
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and other bodies i.e. Law Society, SAIIPL, Sasseta, SARS, Labour Department etc;
  • Ensure timeous submissions of WSP/ATR, EE Reporting, Workmen’s Compensation, Tax reconciliations etc;
  • Ensure an effective working environment by effectively managing the firm’s EWP;
  • Ensure effective IR and conflict management;
  • Ensure effective management of the administration function;
  • Ensure timeous reporting to exco and / or directors on any issues or recommendations pertaining to employees i.e. feedback in terms of exit interviews, employee statistics etc.;
  • Ensure effective succession planning;
  • Ensure that salary surveys are conducted in order to determine competitive salaries for employees at all levels;
  • Ensure an effective performance management process;
  • Maintain a culture that is in line with the firm’s values;
  • Assist and support staff and partners with all HR related matters;
