Competencies & Skills

  • Electrical/mechanical and service design, drawings, building processes, change control processes, construction and buy off.
  • Knowledge of networks associated with metering, utility monitoring, generation emergency and renewable energy.
  • Knowledge of Basic PLC Programs and HMI knowledge
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Ability to interpret, develop and confirm electrical/mechanical drawing designs and modifications taking load and fluid flows.
  • Advanced comprehension of Health, Safety and environmental Standards, Policies, OSH Act, its regulations and South African National Standards, knowledge, understanding and interpretation of standards pertaining to manufacturing, buildings, utilities and facilities and Environmental Act Knowledge and Interpretation.
  • Computer literacy, knowledge and experience in all Microsoft packages Word, Excel and Windows.

Minimum Requirements    

  • Approximately 6 years post graduate experience and 2 years in a Manufacturing or Project role is necessary. 2 years in the role to carry out the afore-mentioned functions autonomously.
  • Recognized diploma or degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • knowledge of “OS&H act” , its related regulations the local Municipal by laws emphasis on electrical, construction, facilities regulations and bylaws.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the standards in ISO9001, ISO14001 quality and environmental management systems plus the NFPA and ASIB insurance requirements for fire systems, hydraulics, detection types, flow testing and fire infrastructure maintenance.
  • Proficient knowledge of utility and facility budgeting and understanding of cost structures of all forms of utility LPG, Electricity, Water, effluent and Argon.
  • knowledge of utility, energy, maintenance and project management, with associated industry standards to maintain legal compliance.
  • knowledge of data center and network room electrical backup systems, air conditioning and alarming, plus emergency backup utility services, electricity, fire protection and observation.
  • Able to work overtime/afterhours ,rotating shifts as required with a Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work at heights and perform Arc flash calculations

Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Responsible for the safety, maintenance and functionality of the overall facility, utility, fire equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment performances and safe operation of the plant, equipment and related Infrastructure.
  • Ensure environmental, social and governance compliance by maintaining an efficient, effective, fuel efficient energy sustaining utility, which involves carbon emission tracking and reduction, reduction in municipal water usage, borehole water monitoring and recycling facility systems, and processes.
  • Responsible for the tactical evaluation and planning of utility and fuel consumption at all manufacturing and nonmanufacturing sites in Isuzu Motors South Africa.
  • Responsible for electrical/mechanical, maintenance and process personnel with interpretation and application of mechanical and electrical engineering criteria to maintain original design intent and integrity of facilities, buildings, HVAC, effluent equipment, pressure vessels and compressed air ensuring integrity, reliability and efficiency.
  • Assist facilities, outsourced activities and contract personnel with the operation of plant effluent and utility systems, electrical reticulation, ventilation systems and related activities.
  • Responsible for providing a forecast and budgets for site ESG, utility, plant and maintenance on both manufacturing and nonmanufacturing. Responsible for the utility portion of major corporate, product programs, plus developing and maintaining long term capital plans for facilities, utilities and fire infrastructure.
  • Manage a team ensuring energy saving, sustainability, preventative maintenance on both mechanical, electrical and fire systems is maintained, analysed and opportunities for improvement considered.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, repair and report immediately and Identify and eliminate waste (Environmental, Insurance and Carbon emissions) in the workplace.
